Relationships

 
    This unit is designed around a beautiful short animation byJulio Pol and the themes of love and relationships.

Step 1

You are going to watch a trailer for a short animated film titled The Gift. Decide why the film is titled The Gift.

Step 2

Work in pairs and to come up with any vocabulary related to romantic love and relationship. Time limit of 5 minutes.

to meet   to go out together   to fall in love

to be jealous    to argue     to make up

to be in love    to settle down   to break up

to split up      to get back together

Step 3

Work in small groups and try to predict what story you are going to see in the film. Use the vocabulary you have looked at in the previous step. Time limit of 10 minutes.

Step 4

Ask a student from each group to read out their story and ask members of the other groups for their comments.

Step 5

You are now going to watch the film. As you watch, your task is to try to understand the story the film tells and then compare it with your own stories.

Step 6

In pairs, compare your stories with the one shown in the film. 

For homework, make a narration individually describing what happens in the story.

Step 7

Do you think the film illustrates a typical relationship? 
What adjectives would you use to describe the film? 
How did the film make you feel?
